A tragic incident occurred as a young child lost his life when a vehicle crashed into a store at a bustling shopping center. The unfortunate event took place around 10:20 am on Sunday, January 18, when a car veered off the road and collided with the BWS store at the Southlands Shopping Centre in Mawson, Canberra. Emergency responders swiftly arrived at the scene following reports of the accident.

Medical teams worked on the child at the site, but due to his critical condition, he was swiftly taken to the hospital for further treatment. Despite all efforts, the young boy succumbed to his injuries shortly after his arrival at the medical facility.

According to a spokesperson from the Australian Capital Territory (ACT) police, the four-year-old boy became the second road fatality of 2026 in ACT after being struck by a car at the Mawson store.
