A tip from a British Gas energy expert suggests utilizing residual oven heat by leaving the oven door open after cooking to help warm up your home. Jessica Rawstron, a smart energy engineer, advises that keeping the oven door open can gradually transfer heat into your kitchen, providing warmth while you dine. British Gas also recommends winter home preparation tips such as draught-proofing windows and doors.

To ensure efficient heating, regularly bleed radiators and schedule an annual boiler service. Parts of the UK are under yellow warnings for snow and ice due to plummeting temperatures. Energy bills have increased, with the average household paying around £1,758 annually for gas and electricity. The price cap sets limits on unit rates and standing charges, but the total bill depends on usage. Pre-payment meter users can expect to pay £1,711 yearly, while those on receipt of bill will pay £1,894 annually. The price cap is updated every three months and is set to change in April 2026.
