Anthony Joshua is currently hospitalized after sustaining ‘minor injuries’ in a tragic car accident in Nigeria that resulted in the death of two individuals. The incident occurred when the former heavyweight champion was involved in a collision between a Jeep he was traveling in and a stationary truck on the Lagos-Ibadan expressway in southwest Nigeria.

Eddie Hearn, Joshua’s promoter, confirmed the news, mentioning that he had just been informed about the crash while on vacation in the Caribbean. Hearn indicated that Joshua was safe and en route to the hospital, but he had limited details about the situation.

Reports from a local news source revealed that Joshua was a passenger in the back seat of the vehicle during the accident, sustaining minor injuries. The boxer was part of a two-car convoy consisting of a Pajero SUV and a Lexus SUV, with his security personnel traveling in a separate vehicle behind them.

An eyewitness described the sequence of events, stating, “Joshua was seated behind the driver in a Lexus SUV that crashed, resulting in the tragic loss of two occupants. Immediate rescue efforts were initiated by eyewitnesses, with the Federal Road Safety Corps arriving shortly after the accident.”

According to The Times, Joshua’s vehicle veered into the truck following a tire blowout, leading to the loss of control, with local law enforcement authorities now investigating the crash.

Eyewitness images depicted the heavyweight boxer standing, and local police sources confirmed that despite sustaining minor injuries, the 36-year-old is in stable condition.

Joshua, who was in Nigeria, had recently shared moments of playing table tennis on his Instagram page before the accident. The boxer had been recovering from his exhibition fight with Jake Paul in Miami, Florida, where he secured a victory after a previous defeat to Daniel Dubois.

The ongoing feud between Joshua and Tyson Fury has sparked anticipation for a potential showdown, with reports suggesting that a fight between the two could materialize under specific event arrangements. Joshua has hinted at a significant year ahead in 2026, reigniting speculation about a potential clash with Fury in the future.

Following his recent win, Joshua publicly called out Fury, expressing his readiness to face off in the ring and challenging Fury to back up his words with actions. The possibility of a long-awaited match between the two heavyweight stars remains a topic of interest within the boxing community.
