Former Border Patrol commander Greg Bovino, a key figure in the immigration enforcement surge under the Donald Trump administration, has been replaced and moved back to California. His departure follows controversy over the shooting death of Alex Pretti in Minneapolis, leading to other agents also leaving the city. Tom Homan, a top official in the Trump administration, will now take charge of the immigration crackdown in Minneapolis.

In response to what they deemed as misinformation from the U.S. Department of Homeland Security following Pretti’s killing, the Minnesota Department of Corrections launched a new website. The site aims to clarify the state’s cooperation with federal authorities and dispel claims made by federal officials. It includes examples of compliance with federal requests and videos showing smooth transfers of custody from state to federal agencies.

The Department of Corrections also issued statements to debunk claims about the criminal backgrounds of individuals involved in the incident near where Pretti was shot. Legal expert Jimmy Gurulé noted the unusual public dispute between local and federal agencies in Minnesota, suggesting a breakdown in trust that has escalated to a point where legal action may be necessary.
