The Toronto Blue Jays placed Vladimir Guerrero Jr., a six-time All-Star, on the seven-day injured list on Saturday due to concussion symptoms. In his absence, outfielder Daz Cameron was called up from Triple-A Buffalo. To accommodate Cameron on the 40-man roster, Lazaro Estrada, a right-hander, was designated for assignment.
Additionally, the Blue Jays recalled left-hander Ricky Tiedemann from Buffalo while sending right-hander Chase Lee down to Triple-A. Guerrero sustained the concussion during a collision with New York Yankees’ rookie shortstop George Lombard Jr. in the sixth inning of Friday’s game. The incident occurred at third base when Lombard attempted to leap over Guerrero but ended up striking him on the head with his knee and thigh.
Guerrero’s helmet was knocked off, but he managed to score the tying run before being replaced by Charles McAdoo at first base in the seventh inning. Following the collision, manager John Schneider mentioned that Guerrero experienced a headache, which persisted into Saturday. Guerrero has a batting average of .263 with seven home runs and 46 RBIs this season.
In other news, Tiedemann, who played at various minor league levels this season, had a record of 0-1 with a 6.43 ERA in seven games, including two starts.
