Argentina’s head coach, Felipe Contepomi, labeled Tom Curry as a “bully” and accused the England flanker of pushing him during a heated incident in the tunnel following Sunday’s 27-23 loss at Allianz Stadium.

The Pumas were angered by Curry’s tackle on Juan Cruz Mallia in the 75th minute, which resulted in Mallia exiting the game due to a suspected ACL knee injury, leaving Argentina with a player short for the remainder of the match.

Although Curry’s challenge led to a penalty, it was not reviewed by the television match official. Contepomi intervened to protest the tackle, sparking a major scuffle between the teams at the final whistle that escalated to the confrontation between Contepomi and Curry.

Contepomi criticized Curry’s behavior, stating, “Curry, let me say, it is probably part of his nature to bully people. He came into the tunnel and he gave me a little smack. He is 27, strong. I am 48.” Contepomi highlighted Curry’s lack of remorse for the injury caused to their player and emphasized the importance of mutual respect in rugby.

In response, England’s head coach, Steve Borthwick, defended Curry’s character, praising him as a respectful team player with impeccable character. Borthwick distanced himself from the tunnel incident, emphasizing the focus on the competitive Test match between the two teams.

England secured their 11th consecutive victory by overcoming a resilient Argentina side in a hard-fought contest. Borthwick commended the team’s performance and highlighted the ongoing development and potential for improvement moving forward.

The match showcased a resilient England team that managed to prevail against a determined Argentina side, demonstrating their continued growth and potential for future success.
