The Ogun and Lagos State Governments issued a joint statement addressing the recent car accident involving Anthony Joshua in Nigeria. The former heavyweight champion sustained minor injuries in the crash, which tragically resulted in the loss of two lives.

In response, the Ogun and Lagos State Governments confirmed that Anthony Joshua was in a road traffic accident on the Lagos–Ibadan Expressway. The collision occurred between the vehicle carrying Joshua and three others and a stationary truck, leading to the fatalities. The governments expressed condolences to the families of the deceased and prayed for strength during this difficult time.

Following the accident, Anthony Joshua and another passenger were promptly taken to a specialized medical facility in Lagos. Medical assessments confirmed their stable condition and ruled out the need for emergency medical procedures at present. A dedicated medical team is closely monitoring their progress, with Joshua in communication with his family.

Both state governments are actively overseeing the situation to ensure that the affected individuals receive optimal medical care, while investigations into the circumstances of the accident have commenced. The public’s concern is appreciated, with a request for privacy for Anthony Joshua and his family at this moment.

The statement was jointly signed by Kayode Akinmade, Special Adviser on Media to the Governor of Ogun State, and Gbenga Omotoso, Commissioner for Information and Strategy for Lagos State.

Anthony Joshua was traveling in a black Lexus Jeep when the incident occurred, colliding with a stationary lorry on the Lagos–Ibadan Expressway. The Federal Road Safety Corps of Nigeria shared preliminary findings indicating that the crash involved a black Lexus Jeep and a stationary red commercial Sinotruck. Five adult males were involved, resulting in two fatalities, one injury, and two individuals escaping unharmed. Anthony Joshua sustained minor injuries and was rescued alive from the scene.

The injured individual received medical attention, and the deceased were taken to Livewell Morgue, Ajaka, Sagamu. The Nigeria Police Motor Traffic Division (MTD) was informed for further investigation and proper documentation. Initial reports suggest that the Lexus Jeep, potentially exceeding the speed limit, lost control during an overtaking maneuver and collided with the parked truck.
