A well-known chain of high street pharmacies has stepped in to rescue 60 branches of a competing firm facing financial collapse.

Allied Pharmacies has assumed control of 60 Jhoots Pharmacies locations, most of which are currently closed. Allied has pledged to restore essential pharmacy services at these sites.

This acquisition expands Allied’s presence to approximately 210 branches in England and Wales. The company emphasized its commitment to reinstating crucial healthcare services at the newly acquired branches.

Acknowledging the vital role of community pharmacies in public health, Allied expressed its dedication to swiftly resuming pharmaceutical services at the affected sites.

Recently, concerns were raised about the closure of some Jhoots pharmacies, potentially leaving local communities without access to healthcare services. Allegations of payment delays to staff were also reported.

The ownership of Jhoots Pharmacies is divided between brothers Manjit and Sarbjit Jhooty, with around 150 branches in the UK. Manjit Jhooty’s businesses operate over 20 Jhoots branches and denied any operational issues. Sarbjit Jhooty reportedly owns the rest.

Manjit Jhooty’s spokesperson affirmed the financial stability and continued services of the pharmacies under his management. Sarbjit Jhooty acknowledged challenges in workforce and recruitment, assuring that steps were being taken to address these issues.

Jhoots Pharmacies has been contacted for further comments.
