Renowned Italian fashion maestro Valentino Garavani has passed away at 93 in Rome, surrounded by his loved ones, as confirmed by Fondazione Valentino Garavani e Giancarlo Giammetti. His funeral is scheduled for Friday, January 23, at the Basilica Santa Maria degli Angeli e dei Martiri in Rome, following lying in state at PM23 in Piazza Mignanelli 23 on Wednesday and Thursday.

Valentino founded his distinctive fashion empire in 1959, becoming the longest-serving couturier of the 20th and 21st centuries. His enduring partnership with Giancarlo Giammetti, both in business and romance for over a decade, was a cornerstone of his success.

Among his esteemed clientele were prominent figures like Diana, Princess of Wales, Jennifer Lopez, Joan Collins, Andy Warhol, Naomi Campbell, Claudia Schiffer, and Julia Roberts. Supermodel Naomi once hailed Valentino as “the last maestro,” praising his craftsmanship and attention to detail.

Valentino’s creations have graced the red carpet worn by modern stars like Zendaya and Carey Mulligan. Notably, he designed wedding gowns for icons such as Jackie Kennedy Onassis and Elizabeth Taylor, showcasing his timeless elegance and style.

His relationship with Jackie Kennedy blossomed into a lifelong friendship and professional collaboration, characterized by mutual admiration for each other’s sense of style. Valentino’s designs were celebrated for their ability to empower women and enhance their beauty, a sentiment he echoed in his own words.

Born in Voghera, Italy, on May 11, 1932, Valentino honed his craft in Paris before returning to Italy to establish his fashion house in Rome. Collaborating with Giancarlo Giammetti, he transformed Valentino SpA into a global brand, known for his iconic red dresses synonymous with sophistication and luxury.

Valentino’s legacy reverberated across the fashion world, with tributes pouring in from industry insiders and fans alike. His impeccable manners, generosity, and artistic vision left an indelible mark on the fashion landscape, earning him a place among the greats of Italian couture.
