Shocking photographs have unveiled the aftermath of the disappearance of an aircraft carrying 11 individuals while in mid-flight.
The aircraft in Indonesia went missing from radar screens on January 17, and wreckage from the plane crash was subsequently discovered in South Sulawesi. The flight had taken off from Adisutjipto Airport in Yogyakarta but lost communication with air traffic control just 12 miles away from the airport.
Scheduled to land at Sultan Hasanuddin International Airport in Makassar, South Sulawesi, the plane was ultimately located crashed in a remote area of the province. Rescue teams swiftly mobilized to the scene in the hopes of locating any survivors.
Tragically, a search team recovered the lifeless body of a man approximately 656 feet down a ravine on the slope of Mount Bulusaraung in Sulawesi. While the identity of the individual has not been confirmed, it is believed he was a passenger aboard the ill-fated aircraft.
Muhammad Arif Anwar, the chief of the Makassar Search and Rescue Office, stated, “The discovery of the principal sections of the aircraft significantly reduces the search area and provides a vital lead for refining the search operation. Our combined search and rescue teams are now concentrating on locating the victims, particularly those who may still be alive.”
Fragments of the airplane’s fuselage were found scattered across rugged terrain on Sunday, with debris strewn along a steep mountainside in Indonesia. As rescuers combed through foggy conditions, the wreckage was located on Mount Bulusaraung on Sulawesi island.
The Indonesia Air Transport plane vanished from radar just 12 miles after taking off from the airport. Indonesian authorities confirmed the recovery of a man’s body, believed to have been a passenger, as efforts to locate the other 10 individuals from the tragic flight are ongoing.
