Eddie Hearn has shared an update on Anthony Joshua, who has returned to training at the gym following the tragic loss of two close friends in a car accident. Joshua, 36, was involved in a serious crash in Nigeria that claimed the lives of his friends and team members, Latif Ayodele and Sina Ghami.
Despite suffering only minor injuries, Joshua narrowly escaped death by changing seats before the accident. Recently, the former two-time heavyweight champion was seen back in action, wearing his gloves once again in Dubai.
Hearn, Joshua’s longtime promoter at Matchroom Boxing, met with Joshua and posted on Instagram expressing admiration for his resilience and strength during this challenging time. Hearn acknowledged that Joshua will need time to recover emotionally but appreciated the support shown for his late friends.
Following the incident, doubts have emerged about Joshua’s future in boxing. Hearn previously mentioned that Joshua would be taking a significant break from the sport to process the tragedy.
Hearn emphasized the importance of giving Joshua the space and time he needs to heal and make decisions about his future in boxing. He stated that only Joshua can determine his next steps, and everyone should respect his process as he copes with the aftermath of the accident.
Joshua has not yet addressed the speculation surrounding his boxing career. He paid tribute to Ayodele and Ghami on social media, expressing gratitude for their impact on his life and the special bond they shared.
Legal actions against Adeniyi Mobolaji Kayode, the driver involved in the accident, are set to resume, with charges including causing death by dangerous driving and driving without due care or a valid license.
