A courageous woman has come forward to share her harrowing abduction by a ruthless gang that planned to exploit her virginity and organs – and her remarkable escape from the ordeal.

Lurata Lyon recounted how she was coerced into an overseas sale of her virginity and subjected to ongoing threats at gunpoint, witnessing the assault of other girls to learn “how to satisfy a man.”

Now 45, Lurata’s harrowing ordeal began when she fled her hometown of Veliki Trnovac, Serbia, at 17 to evade severe violence during the Yugoslav conflict in the 1990s. Following an invasion by an ethnic cleansing murder squad in her village, she embarked on a perilous journey to Kosovo in search of assistance from the Red Cross.

However, her rescue by two US soldiers turned perilous when a local informant alerted a human trafficking ring, leading to her abduction while innocently buying a magazine at a newsstand.

Blindfolded and taken to their hideout, she faced threats of assault until revealing her virginity, which captors saw as a valuable commodity. The gang callously informed her of her sale to the highest bidder and threatened her with forced prostitution and organ trafficking.

Enduring constant gun threats, Lurata witnessed horrifying acts before being prepared for trafficking across the Albanian border. A last-minute offer from the gang leader to spare her further enslavement was sternly refused by Lurata.

In a moment of desperation, guided by an inner voice, she seized an opportunity to escape, unlocking her restraints and fleeing the captors’ house. A dramatic chase ensued, culminating in her rescue by a UN police officer after a violent confrontation.

Following her escape, Lurata faced further hardships, including captivity by impostors posing as national army personnel, before her eventual rescue by her father and a daring escape to the UK, where she sought asylum.

Becoming a British citizen in 2005, Lurata survived and thrived, chronicling her experiences in the memoir “Unbroken: Surviving Human Trafficking.” Despite enduring lasting trauma, she expressed gratitude for her survival and the support of the British community, emphasizing the importance of kindness in the face of adversity.

Today, Lurata serves as a motivational speaker and public speaking coach in the UK, using her story to inspire others.
