If you prefer using Chrome as your web browser, it is recommended that you access the settings, verify your current version, and promptly restart the application.
This suggestion follows the release of an update by Google to address six vulnerabilities present in the Chrome browser. Concerningly, one of these vulnerabilities has been classified as a zero-day threat, indicating that cybercriminals are actively exploiting it.
The issues have been resolved, but it is crucial to ensure you are on the latest version – 138.0.7204.157/.158 for Windows and Mac, and 138.0.7204.157 for Linux.
According to security experts at Malwarebytes, “Google has issued an update for Chrome to fix six security vulnerabilities, including a zero-day threat.” They emphasized the importance of this update, particularly in addressing a vulnerability that can be exploited without user interaction when visiting malicious websites.
To check your browser version, simply click on Chrome in the menu bar and select About Chrome. If there are any pending updates, it is advised to restart the software promptly.
This recent alert comes after a previous advisory earlier this month regarding another zero-day bug. Additionally, security specialists warned that numerous Chrome users were targeted by fake extensions, potentially exposing them to attacks.
Users affected by this issue are advised to perform a full reset of their Chrome software and clear browsing data. Google has reported removing all affected extensions, reducing the risk of new infections.
