Russia has issued a direct threat to use nuclear weapons against the UK and mainland Europe. Sergey Karaganov, the head of Russia’s Council for Foreign and Defense Policy, warned that if Russia faces defeat in Ukraine, Vladimir Putin would resort to nuclear weapons, resulting in catastrophic consequences for Europe.

Karaganov criticized his own government for showing too much patience towards Europe and expressed his concerns in an interview with American commentator Tucker Carlson. He emphasized the need for severe consequences if Europe continues to support the ongoing conflict in Ukraine.

Describing the idea of a Russian defeat as a misguided notion, Karaganov highlighted what he perceived as a lack of intellectual acumen among European leaders. He stated that Europe, once a major global power, is now perceived as a laughingstock due to its leadership’s perceived incompetence.

Karaganov implied that European leaders lack a full understanding of the current global situation, attributing this to what he called a long-term decline in intellectual capacity since 1968. He underscored the importance of Russia’s role in guiding European leaders back to a more rational path without resorting to nuclear means.

As tensions escalate globally, the UK has dispatched a military officer to Greenland in response to Denmark’s increased military presence in the Arctic and High North region. This move comes as former US President Donald Trump advocates for the US to take control of Greenland.

Denmark’s defense minister, Troels Lund Poulsen, emphasized the unpredictability of the situation and announced a joint military operation involving allied countries to bolster regional security. Several nations, including Germany, Sweden, Norway, and France, have committed personnel to this initiative aimed at enhancing cooperation and operational capabilities in the area.

The renewed focus on security coincides with Trump’s persistent push for US control over Greenland to counter potential influence from Russia or China. His administration’s threats to forcibly annex Greenland, a territory of Denmark and a NATO ally, have raised concerns about the future of transatlantic relations.
