Donald Trump has announced that the United States will gain ‘complete access’ to Greenland under a new agreement with NATO members reached at Davos. The President also committed to installing a section of America’s “Golden Dome” missile defense system in Greenland.

During an interview at the World Economic Forum with Fox Business anchor Maria Bartiromo, Trump stated that the deal offers full access to Greenland, emphasizing the necessity for US security. He assured that the US will have unrestricted access to the territory for military purposes.

Trump affirmed that there are no restrictions or time limits to the access granted, indicating a focus on national and international security concerns. While discussions with NATO are in early stages, the specific terms of the agreement are still under development. This development follows Trump’s earlier mention of progress towards a future deal related to Greenland.

The President mentioned that the deal would encompass Greenland’s resources and the US missile defense system, ensuring a lasting arrangement. When questioned about US territorial ownership in Greenland, Trump acknowledged the complexity of the arrangement.

Further negotiations on the Greenland matter are ongoing, led by Vice President JD Vance, Secretary of State Marco Rubio, and special envoy Steve Witkoff. Trump’s recent comments during the World Economic Forum included strategic reasons for securing Greenland for national and international security interests.

Trump reiterated the importance of Greenland in safeguarding North America and Europe, emphasizing the US responsibility in protecting the region. While expressing a desire for immediate discussions on territorial acquisition, he ruled out resorting to military force.

The President’s statements come after a speech at the World Economic Forum that included references to Greenland and Iceland, as well as interactions with European leaders. Trump’s stance on Greenland underlines his administration’s commitment to national security and diplomatic negotiations over military action.
