A Manchester salon owner experienced a frightening incident when a vehicle crashed into her store while she was closing up for the day.
Ndeye Sarr, aged 50, was inside Dixa Hair and Beauty on Hyde Road at approximately 6 pm on Thursday, January 8, when the unexpected collision took place.
Following the crash, Ms. Sarr went to the hospital for a check-up but fortunately sustained only minor injuries. She mentioned that another female staff member narrowly avoided harm after being called back inside by Ms. Sarr moments before the incident, potentially preventing a more severe outcome.
Reflecting on the event, Ms. Sarr characterized the crash as “shocking” and expressed her ongoing disbelief at how close everyone came to serious harm.
Recounting the incident to Manchester Evening News, Ms. Sarr shared, “I usually close around six. One of my employees was waiting for her bus. I advised her to wait indoors due to the cold weather.”
Describing the moment of impact, she recalled hearing a loud noise and instinctively shielding her eyes as shattered glass flew around them. Despite sustaining minor cuts on her hands, both she and her staff member were treated at the hospital until the early hours of the morning.
Ms. Sarr, who has managed the salon for six years, noted that she is still experiencing some discomfort but has reopened the salon to serve her loyal customers.
She expressed concerns over the repair costs to restore the salon to its original condition, as Hyde Road had to be closed for several hours while authorities managed the aftermath of the crash.
According to the police, a 21-year-old man was apprehended on suspicion of dangerous driving, driving without a valid license, and driving while disqualified.
As Ms. Sarr continues to recover from the incident, she acknowledged the support from her customers and the community, despite the challenges posed by the unexpected event.
