Luke Littler shared that a remark from Ricardo Pietreczko motivated him to defeat the German 10-6 and secure a spot in the quarter-finals of the Players Championship Finals. The 18-year-old initially trailed 3-1 against Pietreczko but managed to turn the match around, winning nine of the next 12 legs with an impressive average to advance to the last eight in Minehead.
Despite Littler’s comeback seeming inevitable, he revealed that Pietreczko’s comment during the interval, when the score was tied at five each, fueled his determination. Littler recalled Pietreczko saying he only expected to win one leg but had already secured five, which spurred Littler to push harder and ultimately win the game.
Reflecting on his performance, Littler expressed his dissatisfaction when trailing but emphasized his ability to rally back and maintain focus until the end of the match. Although he acknowledged his room for improvement in doubles play, Littler remained confident in his abilities moving forward.
Having recently claimed the world No.1 title following his Grand Slam victory, Littler showcased his talent with an average of 102.67 and six 180s during the match. He also recreated a controversial 121 finish from a previous encounter in a signature Littler fashion: hitting the bull, treble 7, and bull again.
Next, Littler is set to face world No.9 Chris Dobey in the quarter-final matchup, with the potential to advance to face the winner of Gerwyn Price versus Daryl Gurney in the semi-finals. The tournament also features Nathan Aspinall against Josh Rock and James Wade against Jermaine Wattimena in the remaining quarter-final ties.
