Prince Harry’s relationship with the Palace is reportedly strained once again following his ongoing dispute over police protection. Despite losing his legal battle to reinstate his automatic police protection while in the UK, there has been a significant turnaround as the Home Office has now initiated a comprehensive threat assessment for the first time since 2020.
The results of the evaluation by the Executive Committee for the Protection of Royalty and Public Figures (Ravec) are anticipated this month. Close sources to Harry express confidence that his protection could be reinstated, potentially allowing him to bring his wife Meghan and their children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet, to the UK for a visit.
Earlier claims suggested that Harry having automatic police protection was assured, and any contrary decision would imply Palace interference. However, a former royal aide refuted these claims, stating that such assertions were unfounded and incorrect. They emphasized that the Palace does not have the authority to influence threat analysis or security measures within Ravec.
Government sources also revealed that a risk assessment for Harry is still ongoing, with uncertainties about the final recommendation to Ravec. Notably, it is unlikely that Harry will have a meeting with his father, the King, during his upcoming visit to the UK for his legal proceedings against the Daily Mail publisher.
The King is expected to be in Scotland for his post-Christmas stay when the trial commences. Reports indicate that the King prefers not to be associated with any court proceedings and will maintain distance from his son during this time.
In a recent interview with the BBC, Harry mentioned his desire for reconciliation with his father amidst their security-related disagreements. Despite losing a Court of Appeal challenge regarding his security arrangements in the UK, Harry’s spokesperson declined to comment on the matter.
As Harry prepares for his legal battle in the High Court, the dynamics surrounding his security and relationships within the royal family continue to attract attention.
