Keir Starmer emphasized the significance of international law following the US military’s actions in Venezuela over the weekend. President Donald Trump announced the strikes in response to explosions in Venezuela’s capital, affecting areas like Fort Tiuna and southern Caracas. Despite not condemning the strikes, the UK Prime Minister stated that the UK was not involved and is focusing on the safety of British nationals in Venezuela.

Both Starmer and the PM reiterated the need for more information before making any judgments on the situation. The US President claimed to have conducted “large scale strikes” in Venezuela, capturing President Maduro and his wife. Tensions escalated due to longstanding disputes between the US and Venezuela, with Trump accusing Venezuela of drug trafficking.

Political leaders, including Ed Davey and Zack Polanski, urged condemnation of the US military actions, citing concerns about international law violations. The Foreign Office advised against travel to Venezuela and instructed British nationals to stay informed and prepared for any changes in the situation.
