Samsung, known for its top-notch phones, is on the verge of a significant upgrade that could outshine its current flagship models. The latest Galaxy S25 and S25 Ultra smartphones, like many premium Android devices, are currently powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Elite processor.
Qualcomm is set to unveil the successor to the Snapdragon 8 Elite at a major event in Hawaii. The new processor, named Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5, is expected to take center stage. While specific details are yet to be disclosed, Qualcomm has confirmed the impending release and addressed the leap to Gen 5.
According to Don McGuire, Qualcomm’s Senior Vice President & Chief Marketing Officer, the shift to Gen 5 is a strategic move to emphasize the platform’s leadership and streamline consumer understanding of the product lineup.
The Snapdragon 8 series processor evolution started with the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 in 2021, followed by the 8 Gen 2 in 2022 and 8 Gen 3 in 2023. However, last year saw the introduction of the Snapdragon 8 Elite instead of the anticipated 8 Gen 4.
With the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5, Qualcomm is reintroducing the “Gen” nomenclature as the fifth generation of the 8 series. Although the naming convention may be confusing, one thing is certain – this processor is expected to deliver exceptional speed and performance. Stay tuned for the official announcement tomorrow to learn more about the chip and its potential integration into upcoming smartphones.
Qualcomm emphasized that the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 represents a milestone in the premium-tier evolution, aligning with their commitment to clarity and confidence in their product roadmap.
