WhatsApp is introducing a new feature that will enable instant translation of messages in various languages, making communication easier for its 3 billion users across 180 countries. The messaging platform aims to bridge language gaps and enhance global connectivity.
Users can now translate messages by simply long-pressing on the text and selecting the ‘Translate’ option. This feature allows for language switching within messages and offers the ability to download translations for future reference. It applies to both one-on-one chats and group conversations.
Android users will have the option to activate automatic translation for entire chat threads, ensuring all incoming messages in that chat are translated. The rollout of message translations will begin gradually, starting with a few select languages for Android and iPhone users. Android users can access translations in six languages, including English, Spanish, Hindi, Portuguese, Russian, and Arabic, while iPhone users will have access to over 19 languages.
WhatsApp hopes that this new feature will eliminate language barriers, fostering deeper connections among users worldwide.
