Renowned Olympic gold medalist Jessica Ennis-Hill will be participating alongside Kevin Sinfield in Sheffield for his charitable endeavor supporting Motor Neurone Disease (MND). Ennis-Hill, a Sheffield resident, has pledged her support to run with Sinfield during the fourth stage of his ‘7 in 7 Together’ challenge.
Sinfield, who commenced his latest initiative on Monday, aims to complete an ultra marathon daily for a week. This marks Sinfield’s sixth consecutive year undertaking challenges to benefit MND charities, having already raised over £10 million. The funds have notably contributed to the establishment of a pioneering care center in Leeds, the first of its kind in the United Kingdom.
The inspiration behind Sinfield’s philanthropic efforts stems from his close friend and former teammate, Rob Burrow, who was diagnosed with MND. Sinfield’s relentless dedication has garnered global acclaim, with Ennis-Hill’s involvement expected to significantly elevate awareness for MND.
A decorated athlete, Ennis-Hill clinched Olympic gold in the heptathlon at the 2012 Games and boasts three world championship titles. Since retiring from professional athletics in 2016, she has transitioned into a successful media career and serves as a patron for various charitable organizations, including the Sheffield Children’s Hospital and Barrie Wells’ sports foundation.
Sinfield remains steadfast in his pursuit to find a cure for MND, emphasizing the ongoing need for advocacy. Recent news of former England World Cup winner Lewis Moody’s MND diagnosis serves as a poignant reminder of the importance of continued efforts in this cause.
Looking ahead, Moody plans to host a fundraising dinner in April and organize a charity bike ride in 2026. Following the Sheffield leg, Sinfield will progress to Cumbria, Scotland, culminating his challenge in Leeds on Sunday.
