Young survivors of the recent tragic fire incident in Switzerland delivered heartfelt speeches during an official memorial ceremony today, leading French president Emmanuel Macron to tears.
Marie Albrecht, Aline Morisoli, and Solal Heimendinger, who experienced the horrific event, shared their stories on stage at the event held at “Le Régent” convention center in Martigny. The ceremony, part of a national day of mourning, took place nine days after a devastating fire at Le Constellation bar in Crans-Montana claimed the lives of 40 individuals, including 20 children, and left 116 others injured, with some victims as young as 14 and including two siblings.
Marie Albrecht expressed deep emotions, recounting the tragic turn of events at the bar that fateful evening, describing the harrowing scenes that unfolded. Aline Morisoli highlighted the challenges of their generation but also emphasized resilience and the need for positive change in the world. Solal Heimendinger extended gratitude to the emergency services and medical staff, acknowledging their crucial roles in the aftermath of the tragedy.
The service, attended by around 1,000 people, saw a minute’s applause for the rescue workers and a live broadcast viewing in Crans-Montana. Various dignitaries, including President of the Valais State Council Mathias Reynard and Federal President Guy Parmelin, offered condolences and pledged support for the victims and their families. The investigation into the incident, believed to have been triggered by party sparklers near flammable materials in the bar’s basement, is ongoing.
The tragic incident affected individuals from diverse backgrounds, with 19 nationalities among the victims and survivors. As the community mourns the loss of lives, the survivors and families continue to grapple with the aftermath, seeking solace and justice in the wake of the devastating fire.
