The Met Office has issued a new yellow warning for snow and ice on Sunday following Storm Goretti’s impact across the UK. The storm brought nearly 100mph winds, causing power outages in tens of thousands of properties in various regions. Weather alerts remain in place over the weekend, with northern England and Scotland facing a new snow and ice warning from early morning until mid-afternoon on Sunday.

The forecasters anticipate disruptions due to snow, potentially leading to travel delays and stranded vehicles. Passengers using rail, air, or bus services may experience cancellations or delays. Slippery surfaces could pose a risk of injuries from falls, and power cuts are also a possibility. The Met Office highlighted that snow accumulations are expected, especially in elevated areas, with varying amounts predicted based on location and elevation.

Several regions, including Central, Tayside, Fife, and others, are expected to be affected by the snow and ice warnings. Additional warnings for snow and ice are in place for Saturday, with the Met Office warning of accumulating snow in Scotland and northern England on Sunday. The aftermath of Storm Goretti is described as a “multi-hazard event” by the Met Office, with ongoing disruptions expected due to severe snowfall in affected areas.

Eastern parts of England will see a decrease in rain and sleet, while wintry showers will persist elsewhere along coastal regions. Widespread frost and ice formation are forecasted for another cold night, with diminishing winds towards the east. Parts of eastern England and Scotland may experience wintry showers, while the day is expected to be dry with variable cloud cover elsewhere. The weather will turn wet and windy, moving eastward on Sunday, with hill snow likely in the north and milder conditions expected by Monday and Tuesday.
