A new security threat named Sturnus is causing concern for users of WhatsApp, Telegram, and Signal on Android devices. Identified by Threat Fabric researchers, this Trojan allows cybercriminals to remotely control infected devices, enabling them to view private chats and execute unauthorized transactions. The malware can intercept messages, steal banking details, and bypass encrypted messaging services.
Although Sturnus is currently in the early stages of development and has not yet infected a large number of devices, users are advised to remain vigilant. If hackers find ways to distribute it widely, it could pose a significant risk to millions of Android users. The threat is described as sophisticated, with the ability to take over devices completely, monitor communications, steal credentials, and control various device functions.
To safeguard against such threats, users are urged to only download apps from the official Google Play Store, avoid sideloading software, and review app ratings before installation. While Sturnus is a new threat, its capabilities highlight the importance of maintaining caution and adopting safe app practices on Android devices.
