Following Storm Goretti, a prolonged spell of snowy weather lasting three days is expected later this month.

Storm Goretti caused disruption in the UK with the Met Office issuing warnings for snow, ice, wind, and rain. A rare red warning for wind was issued in the south-west, where a tragic incident occurred when a man lost his life due to a fallen tree on a caravan.

Latest weather models indicate more snowfall following this weekend, with initial snow showers affecting parts of northern England and Scotland on January 18. The ECMWF model forecasts a significant weather system moving in from the Atlantic around 6 am, bringing heavy rain to low-lying areas nationwide.

Maps for the early hours of January 19 suggest further snowfall in various regions, affecting the south-west of England, Wales, the Pennines, the Yorkshire Dales, and western Scotland. Data indicates snowfall rates of up to four inches per hour in some parts of Scotland.

Additional snow is anticipated on January 20, with a focus on large areas of the Midlands and northern England around 6 am. Cities like Manchester, Liverpool, and Stoke-on-Trent could witness snowfall, with rates of up to one inch per hour possible.

Snow depth projections for midday on January 20 indicate substantial accumulation of 40cm (16 inches) in parts of northern Scotland. Wales could expect up to 7cm (three inches) of snow, while northern England may see around 6cm (two inches).
