The Labour Party leader has supported Keir Starmer’s series of policy reversals, describing them as indicators of a confident administration. Turley emphasized that the government’s shifts in policy direction reflect responsiveness to public feedback, citing instances such as revising inheritance tax on farms and adjusting winter fuel payments, benefit reforms, and proposed income tax increases since assuming power in 2024.
She underscored the importance of engaging with constituents and making necessary policy adjustments to better serve the public interest. In response to increasing pressure on struggling pubs, the Treasury is expected to announce additional support measures, including changes to business rates and regulatory simplifications, to alleviate financial burdens on the hospitality sector. Chancellor Rachel Reeves has directed officials to explore assistance for the industry before the holiday season, following concerns raised by businesses facing closure due to escalating costs.
