Joe Cullen has taken to social media to criticize Mensur Suljovic, accusing the experienced darts player of being a ‘cheat.’ Cullen, from Bradford, was defeated by Suljovic in a tense second-round match at the World Darts Championship held at Alexandra Palace.

Suljovic made a remarkable comeback after losing a set to secure a 3-1 win over Cullen. Throughout the game, Cullen displayed frustration by checking his watch sarcastically and mumbling ‘hurry up’ to himself while the 53-year-old Austrian was preparing to throw.

Known for his slower pace compared to other players, Suljovic’s deliberate style and prolonged celebrations visibly irked Cullen, who expressed his displeasure during the post-match handshake, prompting a brief exchange of words between the two players.

Following the match, Cullen didn’t hold back his emotions and vented his anger on social media, stating, “If that’s darts, I don’t want any part of it! Always liked Mensur away from the board but that was plain for all to see! I don’t think I’m alone in feeling this way. The old guard may justify it as part of the game, but no matter how you word it – it’s CHEATING! That’s not darts.”

When questioned about Cullen’s reaction and a potential apology for his slow pace, Suljovic seemed puzzled, stating, “I have never apologized to Joe Cullen in person. I play on that stage, so what’s his issue? I may apologize to the referee, but not to Joe Cullen. Everyone has their own playing style.”

Suljovic expressed his confusion regarding Cullen’s grievances, emphasizing that players have different approaches to the game. Looking ahead, Suljovic may face off against defending world champion Luke Littler in the next round, with Littler set to compete against NHS area manager David Davies in his upcoming match.

The PDC World Darts Championship commenced on December 11, with fans having the exclusive opportunity to watch every match live via Sky’s Essential TV and Sky Sports bundle.
