A man from the UK tragically lost his life in a skiing accident caused by an avalanche in the French Alps.
The victim, estimated to be in his 50s, was skiing off designated slopes at the La Plagne resort in southeastern France, according to a statement released by the resort.
Rescue teams were alerted about the avalanche at 1:57 pm on Sunday and promptly mobilized to the scene.
Approximately 52 individuals, including medical personnel, ski instructors, and a search dog deployed by helicopter, were involved in the rescue efforts to locate the British skier.
After an extensive 50-minute search operation, the man was found buried under 2.5 meters of snow, as confirmed by the resort.
Reports indicated that the man was part of a group when the avalanche occurred, but he lacked an avalanche transceiver and was not accompanied by a professional guide.
La Plagne expressed condolences to the family of the deceased individual.
