An abhorrent rapist in Louisiana, USA, faces a life sentence after being convicted of multiple charges for sexually assaulting a family member, resulting in a pregnancy. Larry Darby, 61, carried out a sustained campaign of abuse against the victim, starting when she was just 12 years old and lasting from 2003 to 2009. Prosecutors revealed that Darby caused severe injuries to the victim, including knocking out her upper teeth and leaving permanent scars on her neck, resorting to violence like beating and strangling her when she resisted.

The victim testified that the relentless assaults led to her becoming pregnant, and she was compelled to carry the child to term, giving birth to Darby’s baby. DNA evidence conclusively proved Darby’s paternity, advancing the investigation that had stalled in 2005. The case was reopened when new corroborating evidence emerged, as reported by local outlet KSLA.

Following a trial at Caddo District Court, Darby was found guilty of aggravated rape, aggravated incest (two counts), and sexual battery. The rape conviction carries a mandatory life sentence, with the possibility of an additional 50 years in prison. Each count of aggravated incest could lead to up to 20 years of hard labor, while the sexual battery charge could result in up to 10 years of imprisonment. Darby’s sentencing is scheduled for January 27, with Caddo Parish District Attorney James E Stewart Sr emphasizing that justice, albeit delayed, was served.

Stewart stated, “This verdict validates the victim’s long-standing truth. Despite the passage of time, justice prevailed. Darby’s prior conviction in 2022 for assaulting a stepchild was used in court to demonstrate a pattern of abuse.

Court records indicate that Darby lived in Caddo Parish during the offenses and later relocated to Bossier City in Louisiana before moving to Texas. The Caddo District Attorney’s Office credited the victim’s bravery in coming forward with crucial evidence that led to Darby’s convictions, highlighting the importance of supporting survivors and responding effectively to reports of abuse.
