The incident involved United Airlines Flight 1871, a Boeing 737 bound for Denver, which struck the tail of a parked Boston-bound Flight 796. This collision prompted the airline to deplane frightened passengers and proceed with a different aircraft.
Despite the alarming experience, United Airlines assured that passengers from both planes were safely deplaned without any injuries. Witnesses described the unsettling moment of impact, with one traveler recalling being in the middle of boarding when the plane suddenly shook and the flight crew informed them of the collision.
Another passenger, on their way to Denver, mentioned feeling a significant jolt during the clash but noted that everyone was securely fastened in their seats. The incident led to a series of maneuvers, including backing out, a U-turn, and an accidental collision with Flight 796.
Additionally, a separate United Airlines flight to Baltimore had to return to the airport due to a burning smell onboard. The decision was made to address the issue, and the plane carrying 164 passengers safely landed back at the airport. Passengers were promptly assisted off the plane, and arrangements were made for a replacement flight.
