After over ten years of conducting interviews and engaging in light-hearted interactions with celebrities over shared fried chicken, Amelia Dimoldenberg, the host of the well-known YouTube talk show “Chicken Shop Date,” revealed this week that she is bringing the show to a close.
In an Instagram post on Thursday, Dimoldenberg expressed her gratitude to her audience for joining her on this journey, stating that the show has been her personal romantic comedy. Despite initially believing that “Chicken Shop Date” would be a permanent fixture in her life, she now feels it is time to embark on a new adventure.
Dimoldenberg launched the show 12 years ago by interviewing musicians in the UK’s underground rap scene and has since expanded to chatting with various celebrities like Keke Palmer, Conan O’Brien, Paul McCartney, and Jack Harlow, accumulating nearly 3.5 million subscribers on her YouTube channel.
“Chicken Shop Date” follows a simple yet engaging format where Dimoldenberg goes on a casual date with a celebrity at a fried chicken shop in London, posing a mix of flirty, humorous, and occasionally awkward questions. The dynamic often resembles the banter of a first date rather than a traditional interview setting, leading to moments like the playful exchange between Dimoldenberg and Andrew Garfield during a 2024 episode.
Among her numerous interviews, Dimoldenberg has also featured Canadians, such as Ryan Reynolds, who shared an amusing moment about his wife Blake Lively’s character on “Gossip Girl.” Additionally, Shania Twain appeared on the show in 2023, revealing that she had never actually met Brad Pitt, despite referencing him in her hit song “That Don’t Impress Me Much.”
The success of Dimoldenberg’s YouTube channel has opened doors to new opportunities, including her presence on the Oscars red carpet this year, where she interviewed another Canadian, Hudson Williams. While Dimoldenberg’s future plans post-“Chicken Shop Date” remain undisclosed, she is currently involved in developing a young adult drama series for the BBC.
In her farewell message on Instagram, Dimoldenberg teased “a few final dates” before bidding farewell to the show for good.
