In a London, Ontario investigation involving explosives and firearms manufacturing, the four individuals previously charged are now facing an additional 19 charges, as per court documents submitted on Tuesday. The accused individuals, Jerry Tong, Zekun (Alex) Wang, Fei (Frank) Han, and Feiyang (Astrid) Ji, were initially charged in January. All four individuals have ties to Western University, either as students or recent graduates, with the three male individuals having backgrounds in the engineering department.
The updated charges, now totaling 31 separate counts, include possession of specific explosive substances, possession of stolen property, and accessing computer data related to firearm production. These charges encompass joint counts against all four individuals as well as charges specific to each accused person.
The investigation, which originated on January 24 following a trespassing incident at Western University involving two of the accused individuals, led law enforcement to a residence in the University Heights neighborhood where the remaining individuals were apprehended. Subsequent searches were conducted at the residence in London, as well as at additional properties in Orléans, Ottawa, and Gatineau.
Initially facing firearms charges at the time of their arrest, including handgun manufacturing and possession of loaded restricted firearms, Tong, Wang, and Ji are now confronted with new charges such as possession of magazines, suppression devices, and prohibited firearms. Tong and Wang are additionally accused of handling and carelessly storing a rifle.
Tong, the individual with the highest number of charges, is now facing charges related to activities in other cities, including storing rifles in Orleans, manufacturing a prohibited firearm in Ottawa, and possessing a rifle at an unauthorized location in Quebec. Court documents reveal that Tong possessed a firearms license, but some of the charges against him involve possessing firearms at unapproved locations.
Further charges have been brought against Wang for weapon manufacturing between September 1, 2025, and January 24, 2026, and breaking into a Western building on October 9, 2025, alongside Tong. The accused individuals are also facing new charges for possessing explosive substances, including pentaerythritol tetranitrate (PETN), trinitrotoluene (TNT), dinitrophenol (DNP), hexamethylene triperoxide diamine (HMTD), and lead azide.
Additionally, they are charged with possessing Western University property valued under $5,000. Wang faces an individual charge of accessing computer data specific to firearms, involving design files for manufacturing devices using 3D printers or metal milling machines.
As the legal process unfolds, Tong faces 28 charges, Wang faces 20 charges, Han faces 11 charges, and Ji faces 13 charges. Two of the accused individuals are currently out on bail while the other two remain in custody. Tong did not request bail and remains detained, while Han was denied bail and remanded in custody. Wang was granted bail with stringent conditions, and Ji is also out on bail without sureties.
