New weather forecasts indicate significant snowfall across various parts of the UK in the upcoming days. The latest maps show that regions in Scotland, northern England, and the south coast will experience heavy snowfall, with some areas expected to receive up to 70cm of snow.
The Scottish Highlands are likely to be heavily impacted, with snowfall extending to the south coast. Central Scotland could see around 71cm of snow by the evening of January 31. In northern England, areas like the Pennines and the border between Cumbria and Northumberland may experience up to 24cm of snow. The north is expected to face more snowfall before it moves southward.
Temperatures are anticipated to plummet, with central Scotland possibly reaching as low as -14C on January 30. The Met Office has warned of a potential drop in temperatures, especially in the North East, with milder Atlantic air initially prevailing before colder conditions take hold.
As we move towards the end of January and into February, a battle between Atlantic weather systems from the west and high-pressure systems from the east is expected. This clash could lead to colder temperatures and an increased likelihood of snowfall across the country.
Looking ahead to February, low pressure in the west or southwest and high pressure in the northeast may bring cold conditions and wintry hazards. The Met Office’s long-range forecast from February 1 to February 15 suggests a risk of wintry weather affecting the UK during this period.
