An upcoming blizzard is expected to bring significant snowfall of up to 85cm, as forecasted by the Met Office, signaling a rise in colder weather conditions and potential wintry risks.

The UK is bracing for continued wintry weather in the following weeks following a frosty start to January with the arrival of Storm Goretti. Weather patterns indicate the convergence of low-pressure systems from the Atlantic colliding with cold Arctic air, leading to snowfall.

As February commences, meteorological maps suggest a looming low-pressure system over Ireland that is anticipated to bring heavy snow across the UK in a wave-like pattern. Scotland is expected to bear the brunt of the snowstorm with depths of up to 85cm, while southern regions may also experience snow flurries.

By 6pm on February 1, the map depicts dark purple snow clouds over northern England and Scotland, shifting slightly eastward over England by 9pm but remaining concentrated over central Scotland.

Additionally, temperatures are expected to plummet significantly, with temperature maps showing a blue hue indicating subzero temperatures. Central Scotland is forecasted to experience temperatures as low as -11C, while south Wales may see -10C around midday on February 2.

The Met Office warns of an escalated likelihood of colder temperatures following an initial drop in the North East.

For the period spanning January 23 to February 1, the forecast indicates a battle between incoming Atlantic weather systems from the west and high pressure systems from the east, resulting in fluctuating weather conditions across the UK. While milder Atlantic air is initially expected to prevail in most areas with rain showers, colder conditions in the far northeast could bring sleet or snow, with a subsequent possibility of widespread colder and drier weather.

Looking ahead to February 2-16, the Met Office foresees continued cold weather conditions and potential wintry hazards. Weather patterns are predicted to evolve slowly, with a configuration favoring cold conditions and wintry risks, especially in the UK. Towards late February, there might be a shift towards more unsettled conditions and a return to average temperatures.
