Retired racing sensation Rachael Blackmore and fellow jockey Brian Hayes are expecting their first child. The couple recently exchanged vows in a cozy ceremony in West Cork after more than a decade of acquaintance.

Rachael joyfully shared the news on her Instagram story, featuring a picture of her Volvo car with a baby pram in the boot. The 36-year-old retired from horse racing last year, leaving behind a remarkable career that included being the first female jockey to win the Grand National and becoming the leading jockey at Cheltenham.

Originally from Tipperary, Rachael achieved 575 wins in her professional racing journey. She announced her retirement in May 2021 following her victory with Minella Times at Aintree.

Her accomplishments include leading rider at the Cheltenham Festival in 2021, with 18 wins, including victories in major contests. Rachael’s success extended to various races, such as the Champion Hurdle, Cheltenham Gold Cup, Ryanair Chase, Queen Mother Champion Chase, and Stayers’ Hurdle.

In 2021, Rachael was honored with the World Sports Star award at the BBC Sports Personality of the Year Awards. She was also recognized as the greatest female jump jockey of all time and inducted into Cheltenham racecourse’s hall of fame.

Rachael and Brian, who have been friends for over ten years, initially met at a stable in Co Carlow during the early stages of their careers. Despite both being jockeys, they seldom discuss racing in their domestic life.

Acknowledging Brian’s crucial role in her career, Rachael expressed her gratitude, stating, “Brian Hayes won’t enjoy getting a mention, but he was more important to my career than I’ll ever be able to thank him for.”

The couple has been seen together at various events, including Wimbledon, music festivals, and vacations. Brian, 34, has a successful 17-year career, having won once at the Cheltenham Festival and ridden for notable figures like Willie Mullins.
