The Winter Olympics village has allegedly exhausted its condom supply despite distributing 10,000 free condoms to athletes. The housing for Olympians during the Games is known for its steamy atmosphere, with numerous stories of amorous encounters surfacing over time.

Authorities are addressing potential issues by providing complimentary contraceptives. However, while 200,000 condoms were handed out at the Paris Summer Games in 2024, only 10,000 were dispensed at Milano Cortina this year. This distribution proved insufficient as there were approximately 10,500 participants in Paris compared to just under 3,000 in northern Italy for the current event.

A participating athlete, requesting anonymity, informed Italian newspaper La Stampa that the condom supplies ran out within three days. They expressed uncertainty about when additional supplies would arrive.

Additionally, organizers have introduced ‘anti-sex’ beds in the Olympic village to discourage off-camera activities. Despite this measure, the simplified cardboard design seems ineffective.

This shortage of condoms is not unprecedented. At the Sydney 2000 Games, organizers had to order an extra 20,000 condoms after exhausting their initial allocation of 70,000.

An outbreak of a sexually transmitted infection would pose a significant risk to the Games. Athletes arriving in Milan were reminded of the importance of prioritizing health through prevention and common sense practices.

A former Olympic gold medalist shed light on the village’s risqué environment, highlighting the widespread knowledge of such activities among participants, officials, and the media. The athlete emphasized the integral role of intimacy in the Olympic spirit and the necessity of the abundant condom distribution.
