Robert Jenrick is set to join Reform UK after being dismissed by Kemi Badenoch. The Tory leader accused Jenrick of planning to defect, backed by Nigel Farage’s confirmation of discussions with him.

Jenrick’s potential move raises concerns due to his involvement in the asylum hotels controversy. During his tenure as Immigration Minister, the number of individuals housed in hotels surged to 56,000. Farage criticized Jenrick, calling him a fraud and untrustworthy.

Despite initially opposing Brexit, Jenrick shifted to a more conservative stance while serving under Suella Braverman. Farage expressed skepticism about Jenrick’s change in beliefs, predicting that it may cause division within the party.

Reform’s London mayoral candidate, Laila Cunningham, also criticized Jenrick for his role in the hotel migrant situation. Despite the ongoing discussions between Jenrick and Reform UK, the party’s leader clarified that no formal agreement was imminent but acknowledged their conversations.

Jenrick, in response to his sacking, expressed determination to remain in the Conservative Party leadership race. The unfolding events may lead to further scrutiny of Jenrick’s political decisions and alliances.
