Managing leftover cooking oil can be a challenge for home cooks. Disposing of it improperly can lead to costly issues, such as blockages in the sink if poured down the drain. While some may consider putting it in the food waste bin, this method is also incorrect, as highlighted by the No1 Binman on TikTok.

The self-proclaimed ‘binfluencer’ advised that used cooking oil should be placed in the general waste bin, not the food waste or recycling bins. To prevent leaks or spills, it is recommended to pour the oil into a container, like a carton or jar, with a secure lid before throwing it away.

For those with large quantities of cooking oil, commercial disposal methods may be necessary, involving contacting the local council or specialized services. However, for typical household amounts, disposing of it in the general waste is the appropriate solution.

Alternatively, experts suggest creative ways to recycle cooking oil. It can be utilized in the garden as a wood treatment or transformed into bird feed by mixing it with seeds and nuts for feathered visitors to enjoy.
