Team GB is aiming for its most successful Winter Olympics at the upcoming Milano Cortina Games. UK Sport, responsible for funding Olympic and Paralympic sports in the UK, anticipates between four to eight medals in northern Italy.

Previously, Team GB’s best Winter Games performance was at Sochi 2014 and Pyeongchang 2018, where they secured five medals, including one gold. However, Team GB officials are setting even higher expectations this time around.

This optimism is grounded in the strong lineup of Team GB athletes heading to Italy, including world champions, X Games gold medallists, and World Cup podium finishers. In the 2024/25 season, British winter athletes amassed nine World Championship medals across various sports.

British skiers and snowboarders achieved 28 major podium finishes in Olympic events, captured three Crystal Globes (overall World Cup titles), and saw Zoe Atkin claim a World Championship crown. Chef de mission Eve Muirhead, a curling gold medallist in 2022, lauded the meticulous preparations aimed at enabling athletes to excel when it counts the most.

Muirhead expressed confidence in the exceptional talent within the team, highlighting the opportunity to challenge the status quo in the upcoming Winter Olympics. Leading the charge in disciplines like men’s skeleton, men’s and mixed curling, skiing, and snowboarding, Mirror Sport delves into the top contenders poised to secure medals in Italy.

Double men’s skeleton world champion Weston dominated the World Cup circuit with three consecutive overall titles between 2023 and 2026. Muir, a two-time World Cup gold medallist, showcased her prowess in slopestyle and big air events. Brookes, the youngest ever snowboarding world champion, is a strong contender for an Olympic medal, while Atkin, the current halfpipe world champion, is also a podium hopeful.

Bankes, the 2021 world champion in snowboarding, and the figure skating duo Fear and Gibson are other key prospects for Team GB. Mouat’s British curlers are poised to build on their silver medal from 2022, having secured consecutive world titles and European crowns.

The Milano Cortina 2026 Winter Olympic Games are scheduled from February 6 to 22, with fans able to catch over 850 hours of live action on discovery+ via Prime Video. Throughout the event, the £3.99 discovery+ Entertainment subscription offers access to TNT Sports 2 for continuous Olympic coverage.
