An 11-year-old boy uttered three alarming words following the alleged shooting of his father, who was found dead from a gunshot wound in their home in Duncannon Borough, Pennsylvania. Douglas Dietz, 42, lost his life after an incident where his son, Clayton, now faces charges of homicide.
Reports indicate that the boy’s mother discovered the tragic scene after hearing a loud noise and smelling something like fireworks before Clayton entered the room and declared, “Daddy’s dead.” State troopers corroborated the event, stating that Clayton confessed to his mother, “I killed Daddy.”
The incident unfolded when Clayton, celebrating his 11th birthday, became furious after his father confiscated his Nintendo Switch. His mother, Jillian, recounted the heartbreaking moment when she found her husband bleeding in bed after Clayton entered the room yelling. Despite her attempts to perform CPR, Douglas was pronounced dead at the scene.
Jillian revealed that the family had celebrated Clayton’s birthday the night before, but a disagreement arose when they insisted he go to bed. The court documents mentioned that Clayton accessed the family gun from a locked drawer using a key he had found, loaded it, and fatally shot his father in bed.
During questioning, Clayton admitted to the shooting and expressed no prior consideration of the consequences. The boy, who has autism and had been displaying troubling behaviors, such as aggression and theft, had his parents seek help from the school, which reportedly did not meet the criteria for intervention.
Following the tragedy, the local school district offered support to students affected by the incident. The community expressed shock over the event, with neighbors describing the Dietz family as kind and private individuals. The circumstances surrounding the shooting have triggered a wave of sadness and disbelief in the close-knit community.
